Germaniae populi bellicofissimi. Tacit. in German. c. 42. Iuxta Hermunduros Narisei, ac deinde Marcomanni, et Quadi agunt. Eaque Germaniae velut frons est, quatenus Danubio praetexitur. Ergo Quadi in Danubii ripâ: scil. infra Marcomannos. Ptol. Γ῾πὸ τὸν ἑρκύνιον δρυμὸν Κουάδοι, ὑφ᾿ οὓς τὰ σιδυρωροχεῖα, καὶ ἡ Λοῦνα ὕλη, ὑφ᾿ ἣν μέγα ἔθνος, οἱ Βαῖμοι, μέχρι τοῦ Δανουβίου. Baemos vero eosdem esse, quos Marcomannos, maleque heic ultra Boiohaemum, notat clarissimus Cluverius. Id tamen haud falsum, quod sub Hercynia silva, i. e. sub Boiohaemo ponuntur quadi. Ferri autem istae secturae fuerunt in eo montium iugo, quod a Moraviae oppido Ostia, et fluvio Morawa ad Vistulae fontem procurrit. Strabo, l. 7. ex emendatione Cluverii: Ε᾿ν ταύτῃ δ᾿ ἐςτὶ καὶ ὁ Ε῾ρκόνιος δρυμὸς, καὶ τὰ τȏυ Σουήβων ἔθνη, τὰ μὲν οἰκοῦντα εντὸς τοῦ δρύμου. ῾εν ᾧ ἐςτὶ καὶ τὸ Βοΐαμον, τὸ τοῦ Μαροβούδου βασίλειον, εἰςὸν` ἑκεῖνος τόπξν ἄλλους τε μετανέςτησε πλείους, καὶ δὴ τοὺς ὁμοεθνεῖς ἑαυτῷ Μαρκομάννους: ἐπέςτη γάρ τοῖς πράγμασιν οὗτος ἐξ ἰδιώτου, μετὰ τὴν ἐκ Ρ῾ώμης ἐπάνοδον: νέος γὰρ ἦν ενθάδε: καὶ ἐυεργετεῖτο ὑπὸ τοῦ Σεβαςτοῦ: ἐπανελθὼν δὲ ἐδυνάςτευσε, καὶ κατεκτήσατο, πρὸς οἷς εἶπον, Λουγίους, τὸ μέγα ἔθνος, καὶ Λεμοβίους, καὶ Γούτονας, καὶ Βουργουνδίωνας καὶ Σιβινοὺς, καὶ τȏυ Σουήβων αὐτῶν τὸ μέγα ἔθνος Σέμνωνας᾿ πλὴν τάγε τȏυ Σουήβων, ὡς ἔφην, ἔθνη, τὰ μὲν ἔντος εἰκεῖ, τὰ δ᾿ ἐκτὸς τοῦ διυμοῦ, καθάπου τᾲ τȏυ Κουάδων,
